The Highland Park Community Solar Program is a new solar energy assistance program provided by the Borough to reduce select residents’ energy burden through a 36% discount on their electricity costs. In addition to the significant discount, the energy produced for the Highland Park Community Solar Program is 100% renewable solar energy!

The Community Solar Program, which was established as part of New Jersey’s 2018 Clean Energy Act, enables utility customers to participate in a solar energy project that is remotely located from their property. The Highland Park Community Solar Program is served by solar facilities located on warehouse rooftops in Cherry Hill, Bridgewater, Blackwood, Voorhees, and North Bergen.

Because the actual solar facilities are located elsewhere, the Highland Park Community Solar Program provides the opportunity for low-to-moderately income (LMI) residents who cannot install solar panels on their own roofs to achieve the savings and environmental benefits of solar energy. Since there is no need for rooftop solar installation, Community Solar expands access to:

  • Renters
  • Residents of apartment buildings
  • Homes with old roofs
  • Homes with shaded roofs
  • Residents with low credit

On October 10, 2023, the Highland Park Community Solar Program was authorized by the Borough Council.  The Borough created a Municipal Community Solar Program, which is unique in that the Program is designed exclusively for the benefit of Highland Park’s residents. Community Solar also comes at no cost to the Borough or taxpayers.

THE HIGHLAND PARK COMMUNITY SOLAR PROGRAM IS SUBSCRIBED THROUGH “OPT-OUT” AUTOMATIC ENROLLMENT.

Residents are prequalified for the Highland Park Community Solar Program if they are within low-to-moderate income limits. Residents who have been pre-qualified and selected for participation will receive a Notice in the mail.

Participants may leave the Program at any time without incurring any penalties or fees. To opt out, contact Gabel Associates, the Energy Agent for the Highland Park Municipal Community Solar Program by calling the toll-free line at 1-855-5-COMSOL; complete the online form at www.gabelassociates.com/solaroptout; or email your home address and program name to communitysolar@gabelassociates.com with “OPT OUT” in the subject line.

While the Highland Park Municipal Community Solar Program is reserved for automatically enrolled lower-income households, other community solar projects are open to general enrollment regardless of income. Visit the New Jersey Community Solar Project Finder to search by zip code for projects currently seeking subscribers. Check back frequently, as availability changes over time.

Any questions or comments may be directed to the Borough’s Community Solar Administrator, Gabel Associates, by emailing communitysolar@gabelassociates.com.
