The Borough’s Department of Public Works is responsible for maintaining all of the Borough’s roadways, which includes pothole repair, signage and repaving projects. Please note that:

  • Raritan Avenue/ Route 27 is a state highway and any maintenance issues can also be reported to the NJDOT

Pothole Repairs

Public Works is able to fill most potholes in-house. Moderate, dry temperatures are ideal for repairs due to the materials that are used so many projects are paused until after the wet, cold winter months. If there is a pothole of concern, please contact the Public Works Department with the address or location so they can address it as soon as possible. You can also report it here.

Street Sign Maintenance

Public Works is responsible for installing and repairing directional, street name, regulatory and warning signage within the Borough, with the exception of county and state roads. If you see a sign that has fallen over or that one is missing in its entirety, please contact the Public Works Department with the address or location so they can address it immediately. You can also report it here.

Road Paving Program

Each year, Public Works evaluates the roads and prioritizes them for repaving as part of our ongoing road improvement program. The Borough utilizes outside contractors for this work. Our Public Works staff travel Borough streets daily and are vigilant of road conditions. If there is a road of concern, you can contact the Public Works Department with its location or report it here

Road Opening Moratorium

Please be advised that the Borough does have an ordinance in our code which states that there is a five year moratorium for non-emergency road openings on newly paved roadways. If you were thinking about converting from oil heat to natural gas, replacing a water service, repairing a leak or any other type of construction that may require an opening to the Borough roadway, we kindly request that you complete this work prior to road resurfacing. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
