Many Highland Park residents have raised concerns about the speed of traffic in the stretch of Route 27 between North 8th Ave and Brookhill Ave. A car accident with two fatalities in that corridor over the summer was a grim reminder of the dangers to drivers and pedestrians.

Borough Administration has advocated for years to the NJ Department of Transportation (NJDOT) for a change in the traffic flow in that area, to reduce the dangers. We're pleased to report that the NJDOT is now in the Concept Development phase to make this change in traffic flow (known as a 'road diet'); they are now offering a Virtual Public Information Center to inform the public of their research, their plans and to invite input.

We encourage all residents to visit https://www.route27highlandpark.com/ to view a ten minute video that provides background on the project. The website also offers a comment form for the public to offer feedback or concerns about the concept plan and a timeline for implementation. The website and the accompanying webform will be available through Monday October 16th; after that time, comments can be sent to Meredith Hammond at NJDOT at Meredith.Hammond@dot.nj.gov.
