An exception will be made if the day prior to pickup is the day upon which a religious holiday is scheduled to start at sundown; then material may be placed for pickup anytime after noon. Regular Garbage

Household garbage and food waste should be placed at curbside in either a disposable plastic bag or garbage can. Cans should have a tight fitting lid and two sturdy handles. Cans should be galvanized metal or rigid plastic construction. Cans must not exceed 32 gallons in capacity and weigh less than 50 pounds when filled with garbage. Cardboard boxes and paper bags are not acceptable containers.

Bulk Trash

Bulk trash (i.e. furniture, appliances, carpeting, hot water heaters, etc.) may be placed at curbside on the same day as your regular garbage collection day. No appointment is necessary. Materials must be securely tied and free of any protruding nails, wires, or sharp edges. By law, refrigerators and freezers must have doors removed. The maximum weight per item is 200 pounds. Unacceptable materials include recyclable materials, auto parts, tires, building and site debris, motor oil, paint cans, and hazardous waste. Bulk trash will not be collected following a holiday.
NOTE: In order to reduce our expensive bulk trash pick-ups, please consider donating good condition items to the Salvation Army (732-545-1477) or other charities. Used clothing can be placed in the bins at Stop & Shop parking lot. Garage sales and even e-Bay.com turn your unwanted items into cash. Composting yard waste and vegetable scraps is also a great alternative to filling up a trash can.

Residential Electronics Recycling

The DPW is no longer accepting electronics with the regular garbage collection. Residents must drop-off their residentially generated electronic devices (TVs, computers, printers, scanners, VCRs, telephones) free of charge, at the DPW garage during normal business hours.  Toaster ovens, toasters and microwave ovens will still be collected with the normal garbage collection.  Proof of residence will be required.  Commercially generated items cannot be accepted.

During the months of November and December, leaves are collected for composting. Leaves must be placed curbside in either biodegradable paper bags or garbage cans. Leaves placed curbside in plastic bags or cardboard boxes will not be collected.
NOTE: It is illegal to rake or blow leaves into the street.

Christmas Trees

Collections of Christmas trees will take place in January only. Trees will be picked up curbside for composting. Put them out with your regular garbage. Trees must be free of tinsel, ornaments, and decorations. Do not put Christmas trees into plastic bags.
