The Special Needs Registry is a free program available to Special Needs Citizens who reside in Highland Park.

The Special Needs Registry is designed to assist the Police Department during encounters with members of the community who have disabilities such as, but not limited to; Alzheimer's, Autism, Schizophrenia, Dementia, or any other mental/developmental disorders. This registry gives the name, address, medical information, and emergency contacts, along with a digital picture of the registered person.

This program works by completing an application which provides pertinent information to responding Police Officers, Fire Fighters, and First aid members.  This information includes a list of emergency contacts, and any pertinent medical information that you wish to share with First Responders.  This information will only be shared with medical professionals.

How does the program work?

The program works by completing an application which provides pertinent information to responding Police Officers, Fire Fighters and First aid members.  This information includes a list of emergency contacts and any pertinent medical information that you wish to share with First Responders.  This information will only be shared with medical professionals.

You may provide a key to your residence, which allows you to feel safe that you can keep your home locked, but still have access for emergency personnel.  We also ask for a photo to be provided, a digital copy can be emailed to  or you can stop by and have your photo taken at Police Headquarters.

Completed applications, with your key, can be turned into the Highland Park Police Department at any time day or night.
